A Bolder Moment - Killdeer, acrylic, 18 x 24 inches, 2012

SOLD

“One foggy morning I enjoyed a stroll along the beach at Point Holmes on Vancouver Island. I am always inspired by the layered effect and muted colours that fog provides. On this morning, I was also inspired by the shapes and textures of the boulders scattered along the shoreline. In the painting, I resisted the obvious placement of a bird perched on top of the boulder and instead placed a killdeer on the ground. Killdeer will flash their rust coloured tail feathers and fake injury to lure intruders away from their nest. It is the beginning of this bold behaviour that I have depicted here.”
